Creon's stubborn way of ruling influenced everything that occurred because of him giving Esteocles a formal burial and leaving Polyneices' body out to be eaten. Antigone, the sister of Polyneices and Esteocles, thought it was wrong that Esteocles had a formal burial and Polyneices was left out to be eaten by wild dogs and vultures.
A negative connotation of pride is best revealed in Antigone, a Greek tragedy written by Sophocles in 441 BC. This play chronicles a constant conflict regarding Antigone and Creon’s disagreeing reverence for Polynices’s dead body. Exhibiting an unrestrained level of pride, or hubris, leads to one’s hamartia, as seen at the end of the play.
Antigone does, however, conform to the persona of a tragic hero. The first qualifying aspect is that Antigone has a high social position. She is the daughter of Jocasta and Oedipus (the former king and queen of Thebes), and the niece of Creon (the present king of Thebes).
Oedipus and Creon both ruled Thebes with stubbornness. When they had an idea set in their brains they would not change it. They both had firm beliefs in their ideas. For instance, Creon sentenced Antigone to death, since she was the person who gave her brother, Polynices, a proper burial.
Antigone-Analysis of Creon’s speech After the war between Oedipus’ two sons Eteocles and Polyneices killed both brothers, Creon, their uncle, ascended to the throne as the nearest kinsman. This speech is Creon’s first as king and its main aims are to explain his legitimacy, outline his political ideals and justify his proclamation regarding the treatment of Polyneices.
Creon’s tragic flaws were his stubbornness, the abuse of power and the actions he took to cause the downfall of the Thebes. Creon showed his stubbornness by not wanting to be proved wrong because of pride. When the Choragos tried to tell Creon that he made a mistake by telling that nobody can burry the body of Polyneices.
Antigone is a tragedy that involves the changing attitudes of two characters. It is through the changes made by Antigone and Creon from close-minded to open-minded characters that the play becomes a tragedy. With Creon’s stubborn laws and Antigone’s stubborn opinion in the beginning of the play, the tragedy may take place.

Creon’s circumstances prove that pride and stubbornness are indeed great crimes in the eyes of the gods. Sophocles was careful to show that Creon disobeyed every word of Tiresias’ advice and to, just as carefully, show the results of his disobeyance.
Ironically, Creon starts accusing everybody of conspiracy, just the way Oedipus accused him. Also like Oedipus, he disbelieves the words of the blind prophet Teiresias. When the seer predicts that Creon's course of action will result in the death of Creon's whole family, the paranoid king accuses the seer of having been bribed.
